Gems' Sales Sprint Ahead After Swine Flu Outbreak
Sheffield-based Gems Hygiene has recorded a nine-fold increase in sales of its multi-purpose bactericidal cleaner, Sprint, since the outbreak of swine flu in April this year.
The leading supplier of cleaning products noted a month-on-month increase in purchases of Sprint, most notably at the height of the swine flu epidemic when sales doubled.
Between June and July this year sales of Sprint increased by more than 50%, making it one of Gems’ most popular products across its entire client base. The company is expecting these figures to continue to rise as the second wave of the virus takes hold.
Sprint is part of a range of products supplied by Gems to help organisations protect against the spread of swine flu. It kills germs on all washable surfaces, particularly those prone to harbouring harmful bacteria. The product is non-corrosive and has a low hazard rating, making it ideal for use on medical or gym equipment. It is also effective against avian flu and MRSA.
Sarah Wade, Gems’ marketing manager, said: “Following the outbreak of swine flu in April, businesses across all sectors had to look seriously at preventing the spread of germs in the workplace, to avoid the epidemic having an impact on their productivity. The rise in sales of Sprint can be directly attributed to this heightened hygiene awareness, something we expect to be replicated through the last quarter of the year as the second wave takes hold.”
