Gems Gains DEFRA Seal Of Approval

Government agency, DEFRA, has given Sheffield’s Gems Hygiene the official thumbs up for its first animal-friendly cleaning agent.

Gemexol, the latest addition to Gems’ product range, now features on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (DEFRA) list of approved disinfectants.

The listing acknowledges DEFRA’s approval of Gemexol for use in environments in which animals are kept and the agency’s recognition of its effectiveness against diseases in poultry, such as Avian Influenza, and Foot and Mouth. 

The introduction of Gemexol is enabling Gems to access previously untapped markets and the firm is investing heavily in a sales drive aimed at animal-related industries, particularly professional environments such as kennels, stables and veterinary practices. 

Sarah Wade, Gems’ marketing executive, said: “We are confident that Gemexol is one of the best cleaners around for use in animal environments and we are extremely pleased that DEFRA has now recognised its efficiency too. Having the backing of such a well-regarded organisation will undoubtedly increase customer confidence in Gems and our products, as we establish a presence in the industry.”
